    Obituary of Gebhard Durenberger
    LeSueur Sentinel, May 5, 1900

The most unexpected death of Gephard Durenberger, Sr. came on Sunday morning at about 6 o'clock and terminated a long and busy life.

The deceased was born in Wittemberg, Germany on January 27, 1818 and was past 82 years of age. He came to the U.S. in 1855 and took up a claim in Henderson township where he resided 19 years, when he moved to Lake Praire township, Nicollet county, where he resided 16 years, retiring then and removing to this city where he since resided. For 35 years he enjoyed farming. By hard work, strict economy, and the increase in the value of the land, he acquired quite a modest competence, in addition to raising a family of 9 children.

He married Theresa Miller on May 21, 1859, his wife and children surviving him, his being the first inroad death has made in the family circle.

His children grown and engaged in business in various places are: Mrs. Theresa Hoffman, Henderson; Antone of Wells; Gephard, Jr. of Lake Praire; Joseph, St James; Mrs. Leo Simmonette (wife of John Simmonette, Jr.) Le Sueur Center; Theodore of Rock Rapids, Iowa; August of Marshall; Mrs. William Thomas, St Peter; and Miss Mary Durenberger, Le Sueur. All of the children were able to visit him before his death and all attended the funeral, which was from St. Anne's Church at 10 A.M. on Tuesday.

Le Center Leader, June 1, 1919

MRS. THERESA DURRENBERGER KNOWN TO MANY AS "GRANDMA"

She was born Theresa Miller (Mueller) in Wurtemberg, Germany. She came to America about 1859 to St. Paul where she married Gephart Durrenberger who died 30 April 1900. After their marriage they moved to Sibley county where they lived a number of years before going to Nicollet county and then to Le Sueur county about 1893. For the past five years she made her home in Le Center with Mrs. John Simonett II and Mrs. B. F. McCue.
She was a sturdy hard-working pioneer woman and her greatest worry in her declining years was that she would not be about and at work as in years gone by.
Children surviving are: Mrs. B. (Theresa) Hoffman, Henderson; Mrs. John (Lena) Simonett II, Le Sueur Center (Le Center); Mrs. B. F. (Mary) McCue, Le Sueur Center; Mrs. Will (Rose) Thomas, St. Peter; Anton Dirrenberger, St. Paul; Gephart Durrenberger II, Le Sueur; Joseph Durrenberger, Mankato; Theodore Durrenberger, Eccelsior; and August Durrenberger, Marshall. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery at Le Sueur, Minnesota.
