ABOUT THIS PROJECT
I started this Family History Project in 1985. After both of my parents passed away, I realized how little I knew of my origins. All I had, and all that I knew, was the information on a dozen funeral cards of various family members which my parents had saved over the years. I entered that information into a DOS genealogy program and that started it. I have used several programs over the years including Roots, Ultimate Family Tree, and The Master Genealogist.
Over the last 30 years genealogical research has changed dramatically. In those early years it meant a trip to Salt Lake City, visits to the National Archives facility in Seattle, many hours sitting in front of micro-fiche and microfilm readers at LDS Family History Centers and cemetery visits here in the US and in Scotland. Now much of the work can be done sitting in the comfort of your home utilizing Ancestry.com or other online services and Google searches. The ScotlandsPeople website has been an invaluable tool in my research.
Gedsite, the excellent website creation software using data from The Master Genealogist or a Gedcom file exported from your own family history software to create and publish a family history website. This software has made it possible for me to share all my work with you.
I was born and raised in Little Falls, Minnesota, graduated from college in Southern California, served in the US Army in Alaska, became a CPA and worked most of my career as a Vice President of Finance or Chief Financial Officer for several companies in Alaska and in the Pacific Northwest. I have been married to my wife, Susan, for almost 30 years and have two wonderful children, Rachel and Darren, who are now grown adults. I fully retired in 2007 and that gave me more time to work on this project.
I feel privileged to have been able to have the time and resources to continue this effort for 30 years. I have learned much about my family history, more than I ever expected, and have met many new cousins as a direct result of this website. In many cases, these new cousins have been an invaluable help in my ongoing efforts to document the family history.
I hope you find tidbits of information on my website that relate to your own family. I'd like to hear from you especially if you need me to correct or add information about your family.
